Viscotek (www.viscotek.com) have introduced a new fully functional GPC/SEC system for characterising copolymers.
Bringing together Viscotek's market leading Triple Detector Array (TDA), GPCmaxTM integrated pump, autosampler and degasser module and powerful OmniSEC software the new system is able to cope with even the most demanding copolymer analyses.
The TDA harnesses the power of RI, UV and viscometry or light scattering detectors acting together, with each detector providing complimentary but different information. By ratioing the response from the two concentration detectors the system corrects the limitations of using a single detector delivering rapid determination of copolymer concentration and a true concentration profile. Through adding the viscometry or light scattering detector the TDA enables users to obtain molecular weight, molecular size, intrinsic viscosity, conformation, structure and branching data from their copolymer sample. Maintained in a thermostatically controlled environment the TDA has the sensitivity and stability to repeatably characterise copolymers even at low concentrations.
Specifically designed for GPC / SEC applications the GPCmaxTM integrates optimised pump, autosampler and degasser modules in a compact benchtop instrument and is fully controllable from OmniSEC software. Benefiting from Viscotek's experience of providing leading edge solutions for polymer characterisation, the GPCmaxTM delivers the superior performance you would normally expect only from a top-of-the-range system. Incorporating a programmable variable loop autosampler, the GPCmaxTM provides reproducible sample injection and eliminates the need for sample transfer. The in-line degasser removes dissolved gases ensuring optimum performance from concentration, viscosity or light scattering detectors. The GPCmaxTM robust isocratic pump provides constant and smooth solvent flow to ensure precise, repeatable results.
Data from the TDA and the GPCmaxTM is collected and processed seamlessly in the OmniSEC software. OmniSEC is the first fully 21CFR Part 11 compliant GPC/SEC software to provide an integrated software solution that helps maximise the information extraction and efficiency of copolymer characterisation experiments. Within this software module advanced facility for calculating dn/dc for every slice of copolymer data greatly enhances analytical accuracy and is particularly advantageous when using light scattering detection. The ability to graph copolymer percent as a function of elution volume and store calibration tables for different copolymer types further increases operational versatility and ease of use. Sample types that will benefit most from the new software module include synthetic polymers such as styrene-butadiene copolymers, PEGylated proteins and natural copolymers such as protein polysaccharides.
