Prior Scientific Instruments Ltd provide solutions for micro-inspection and micro positioning worldwide. Designed and built at our Cambridge, UK factory the ErgoScan system has been designed to minimise the ergonomic problems associated with prolonged microscope usage. It achieves this by motorising both the X-Y stage control and the focus drive and therefore removing the need to stretch fingers to reach focus knobs or grip an uncomfortable stage control. The movement of these items can then be controlled by the operator using a highly ergonomic system of low resistance joystick for scanning across the smear and flat hand roller for focus adjustment. The X-Y control has adjustable speed to suit all operator preferences. The ErgoScan is available in three versions, focus only, stage only or the full three-axis stage and focus system. All versions are quick and easy to install and provide very smooth movements with minimal noise.

The obvious benefit of the system is reduced operator fatigue and therefore increased productivity. The ErgoScan system has actually been responsible for keeping experienced Cytology Screeners, suffering from chronic pain caused by microscope usage, in their jobs.
