In the last few months, MULTITEL has designed, realised and validated many new prototypes of sub-systems such as optical amplifiers for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or “benchtop” applications. They bring our latest optical designs to actual demonstration and application.
Either OEM or benchtop, prototypes are major steps in the development of a new product. They may demonstrate the feasibility and cost of a new product while concluding the pre-development phase. They can also constitute the first delivery of samples to the end-users for tests and validation. In both cases, it is a key achievement and milestone for the future product and its valorisation !
OEM modules are designed in order to be integrated in larger sub-systems, such as signal repeaters for telecom networks, lasers for medical or industrial applications, optical sensing systems, … and require small footprint, EMC, reliability and low power consumption. As for benchtop products, they are dedicated to laboratory use and integrate a friendly user interface with digital display, switches, and visible alarm status indicators.
Most of the numerous prototypes that have been realised in 2003 and 2004 were delivered to our industrial partners, who distributed them world-wide to many end-users.
Among other applications, a large number of the prototypes made by MULTITEL have been implemented in the pilot test beds of leading-edge system manufacturers for the validation of high data rate optical communications networks, such as transport systems of up to several thousands of kilometres.
