SM980 is compatible with other fibers used in EDFA pump-laser pigtails and, when used to fabricate 980/1550 WDMs will effectively guide both pump and signal wavelengths. SM1500(6.4/80) and SM1500(4.2/125) may be used in any application in which low bend-induced loss is of paramount importance - both exhibit negligible excess loss, even when deployed in 100 m hydrophone coils only 10 mm in diameter. The increased germania content of SM1500(4.2/125) also enhances photosensitivity - facilitating the fabrication of certain types of fiber bragg gratings (FBGs).
