The new SIR Ballistic Range camera, from Specialised Imaging Ltd. (www.specialised-imaging.com) sets a new standard for high reliability and superior image quality.

Packaged in a sealed unit the compact camera offers IP54 standard protection against the ingress of rain and humidity. Rigid all-metal bodywork provides the robustness to ensure reliable long-term operation even in the harshest exterior ballistics, detonics and impact study environments.

Available in 2 versions, a high gain system for use in low-light applications, and a high resolution variant with a 2048 x 2048 pixel 12-bit CCD sensor optically coupled to a MCP Intensifier the SIR Ballistic Range camera provides exceptional image quality, dynamic range and optical sensitivity whatever your application. With exposure times down to 20 nsec. the SIR Ballistic Range camera allows the fastest projectiles to be captured and analysed either as single or up to 16 independently controlled superimposed images. The system also provides comprehensive trigger facilities and multiple exposure enabling trajectory analysis.

The SIR Ballistic Range camera incorporates an integral 6.5-inch TFT display that shows real-time images from the sensor enabling users to rapidly optimise focus and lighting conditions ensuring spectacular results. All imaging functions can be controlled from the intuitive local keypad for camera set-up, whilst full remote operation is achieved over a standard Ethernet network facilitating easy integration into any imaging environment. A comprehensive suite of Windows NT / 200 / XP software provides intuitive camera control plus extensive measurement tools to quickly and accurately produce velocity, yaw and spin rate data. Image archiving in a wide range of industry standard formats is supported.
The system brings significant advantages in terms of speed and cost savings over traditional film based systems for measuring high-speed impact events in both military and civil applications. Unlike high-speed photography systems no costly films, flashbulbs or processing chemicals are required making the running costs of the SIR Ballistic Range camera modest.
