Scintillation crystals designed to convert X or Gamma Rays into light pulses

PRINT
BACK

The range of materials include Thallium activated Sodium Iodide (NaI(Tl)) , Thallium activated Caesium Iodide (CsI(Tl)), Zinc Tungstate (ZnWO4) , Bismuth Germanate (Bi4Ge3O12), Europium activated Calcium Fluoride (CaF2(Eu))

They employ scintillation crystals which convert X or Gamma Rays into light pulses which are subsequently detected by either a photomultiplier tube or photodiode.

Applications range from thickness gauging in the steel industry to detecting rare radioactive decay events measured in underground caverns
