Tucson, Arizona – June 13, 2005 – Spectra-Physics, a Division of Newport Corporation and a world leader in high-power diode laser solutions, today announced that it has achieved 358 W output power from a 50% fill factor 1 cm wide ProLite® diode laser bar of 940 nm material, cooled to 8ºC.

“This is a very exciting announcement that reaffirms our position as the premier supplier of high power diode lasers. Spectra-Physics was able to achieve such high performance from this diode laser bar by continuously improving every aspect of our process, materials and assembly,” said Franck Leibreich, Director of Marketing for Spectra-Physics. “This includes improvements not only in EPI structure and quality, but also in facet coating and bonding. By combining high power with high reliability, we will continue to provide superior diode solutions to our customers.”

Spectra-Physics’ line of ProLiteâ diode laser solutions includes a wide range of product operating over the 780 nm to 980 nm range. Single emitter and fiber coupled single emitter lasers are available with several watts of direct output. Multi-emitter laser bars and fiber-coupled bars provide 10 W and higher output power. In addition, the company’s Monsoonâ Multi-bar modules (stacks) provide 50 W to the kilowatt range for power intensive applications.
