Spectra-Physics Announces Newest Member of the ExcelsiorTM Family of Diode-Pumped Solid-State (DPSS) Lasers

Spectra-Physics’ new Excelsior-473 will be on display at Laser 2005 in Munich, Germany, June 13-16, and at InterOpto in Chiba, Japan July 13-15

Mountain View, California – June 13, 2005 – Spectra-Physics, A Division of Newport Corporation, today introduced the ExcelsiorTM -473 low-power, continuous wave (CW) solid-state lasers. The new lasers, which emit light in the blue wavelength range, have been designed for demanding OEM applications including digital photofinishing, confocal microscopy, laser induced fluorescence and interferometry.

“We are pleased to expand our Excelsior product line and offer new products at 473 nanometers. Like the Excelsior 532 that was announced in May 2005, this newest member of the Excelsior family offers the smallest footprint in its class and is easy-to-integrate and operate,” said Jürgen Niederhofer, Product Manager for Spectra-Physics. “In addition, the Excelsior-473 lasers are available with the same 15-month, unlimited hour warranty that is offered with our Excelsior-532 product.”

The Excelsior-473 lasers are single frequency lasers with output power levels of 5 or 10 mW. The superior thermal management of the laser head ensures minimal frequency drift when operating in harsh environments. An integrated active light loop guarantees that every Excelsior-473 lasers delivers outstanding power stability.

A patented intra-cavity doubling technique generates visible light at 473 nm with high conversion efficiency, resulting in lower overall power consumption and exceptionally low optical noise. The Excelsior-473 laser is operated from a single 5V supply line and utilizes less than 30 W of electrical power.
