Almost a dozen forms of pure tantalum are available from Goodfellow, a leading supplier of small quantities of metals, materials, and related specialized services. Tantalum is highly valued for its exceptional resistance to corrosion. It can be used as a replacement for platinum in laboratory apparatus requiring good corrosion resistance, and in the chemical industry for similar reasons. Tantalum is also resistant to acid attack (with the exception of HF). Other applications of the pure metal are found in the electronics industry (e.g., the manufacture of rectifiers, capacitors, lamp filaments, etc.) and in vacuum systems where it absorbs residual gases.

Goodfellow offers pure tantalum as microfoil (with a thinness of 0.1µm, mounted on a permanent polyester support), foil, sputtering target, mesh, wire, rod, tube, powder, lump, sphere, and single crystal. Tantalum is also available in a number of compound powders, including tantalum boride, tantalum carbide, tantalum hafnium carbide, tantalum hydride, and tantalum silicide.
