If thin-film optical filters are used to select a single wavelength or a wavelength band from the radiation of an illumination source they are usually completed by color glasses which suppress the unwanted wavelength regions by absorption. However, in case of high power illumination, absorption leads to high thermal load and, finally, damages the filters. This is avoided if the a multilayer coating rejects the incident light in the blockbands by its reflection.
mso jena manufactures interference filters as OEM solutions for UV optics in the wavelength region > 190 nm. By plasma ion-assisted deposition of Al2O3, HfO2, and SiO2 thin-films we manufacture unique low-loss, all-dielectric filters with pass-band transmittance up to 98% and stop-band transmittance below 0.01%. The coatings are long-time stable without spectral shift under environmental load.
A major application of UV filters is the selection of characteristic lines of Hg-lamps, typically with high power illumination of up to 1000 W. All types of filters are required for this purpose, for instance long-pass, band-pass, and short-pass.
