The UV viewer works by focusing ultraviolet light reflected or emitted from a chosen subject onto the image tube. The tube converts the ultraviolet light into a visual image on the P-20 phosphor screen which is viewed through the eyepiece. The power for the tube is supplied by one 1.5 volt "C" cell battery converted to 12,000 volts by the self-contained high voltage power supply. Also available are helmet-mounted viewers allowing for free use of both hands. The UV viewer has applications that include examining alignment and beam quality of excimer lasers, monitoring degradation of UV optical components and examining coatings from near infrared to deep UV wavelengths. Forensic applications including fingerprint and chemical analysis.
