VDF3600 vision system for glass manufacturing process – LORD Ingenierie

DESCRIPTION: For the manufacture of special glass using a float glass style installation different manufacturing processes are implemented to add a coating layer (mirror, athermal glass) The manufacturing processes sometimes generate defects which appear as marks in the coating. These faults, often of hardly any contrast, are not picked up by the usual on-line inspection systems. If these marks are found the manufacturing processes concerning this coating have to be checked and the defective areas marked on the ribbon. The ideal position to install the VDF 3600 is just after the annealing lehr. This optimises interaction time of the process. Characteristics of the products to be controlled : - Flat glass ; mirror, coated glass - Glass tint and transmission : irrelevant - Glass width : 3.6 m - Thickness : 1 to 12 mm - Minimum fault size : 3 x 3 (depending on contrast) - Maximum conveyor speed 30 m/mn - Good standard of cleanliness of glass Location: The detection principle being based on the light reflection of the coating added to the glass, the system is located above the float ribbon. Depending on the environmental conditions the installation may include a cooling system for the cameras and the light box. Other constraints regarding the location are connected to the height of the camera and the access required to it for adjustment and maintenance purposes. The camera support and the lighting, rugged and independent of the conveyor structure ensure the systems protection from parasitic vibrations. Lighting : - Light box using standard fluorescent tubes - Specific power supply for fluorescent tubes Support : - Gantry sized according to conveyor dimensions - LORD Ingénierie protective casing - LORD Ingénierie camera angle adjustment system Detection principle concerning coating defects In order to obtain satisfactory resolution, three cameras are placed perpendicular to the direction of the conveyed float ribbon and each one analyses a section of the ribbon. These cameras are equipped with interference filters adapted to the type of coating to be verified. The lighting used is standard fluorescent tubes of a tint adapted to the coating. Thanks to this combination of filter and lighting the contrast of the faults on the coating is greatly improved.
