The VP-500 is a complete "intelligent" patch-clamp amplifier, a stimulator, an acquisition system, and a software providing on-line and off-line signal analysis facilities.
The VP-500 is a complete wide band patch clamp amplifier, with low noise headstage. It is entirely under control of the computer. Thanks to an original technique, it may automatically compute the seal impedance, the pipette capacitance, the cell capacitance, the membrane resistance and the series resistance for either automatic or manual compensation. The cell capacitance, membrane resistance and series resistance may be repeatedly computed and stored as auxiliary signals.
The VP-500 includes a programmable stimulator allowing unlimited protocols. The icon editor lets you build your stimulation as you draw it. In addition to the programmed stimulation, a "manual" simple shock stimulator allows tests or easy current clamp threshold determination.
It runs a high resolution interface, with 16 bit analog to digital converters for built-in voltage or current storage on disk at up to 100 kHz, continuously, or during stimulation. Four auxiliary channels can simultaneously be stored at up to 100 kHz for contraction, optical measurements or any other signal. The VP-500 can be used as a digital oscilloscope. Additional digital inputs and outputs are available for external devices.
The VP-500 appears as a 19" amplifier box 4U high linked to the amplifier headstage, and a GPIB-USB-B connector to plug to a free USB port of your computer. A complete manual and on-line helps allows a fast mastering of the system.
