Santa Clara, Calif., July 20, 2005 – The FieldMaxII™ is a next-generation laser meter from Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR). Replacing the original FieldMax, the FieldMaxII provides a new PC host interface, LabView drivers, ActiveX component, analog output, and expanded pyroelectric sensor capabilities. This combination of features makes FieldMaxII the most powerful and versatile laser meter in its price range. FieldMaxII is available in either power-only, energy-only, or both power and energy configurations. The value of FieldMaxII is strengthened by Coherent’s broad range of thermopile, pyroelectric, and semiconductor sensors. Together, these enable FieldMaxII to measure UV, visible, and IR laser output from the nanowatt to the kilowatt range, and to work with CW and pulsed lasers with repetition rates of up to 300 Hz.

The new general-purpose meters are targeted at a broad range of laser users and manufacturers, including production test personnel, field service engineers, general scientific users, and laser-based instrumentation builders. For production test applications, a LabVIEW* Instrument driver and ActiveX DLL Server component facilitate the development of custom testing routines and simplify integration with other test equipment. Field service applications will benefit from the meter’s small size, new rechargeable battery pack, and responsive tuning indicator for peaking laser output. For general laboratory use, the FieldMaxII offers versatility, accuracy, and easy access to statistics and features, such as wavelength compensation and attenuation correction.
