Leading sensor manufacturer, e2v technologies, is certainly making waves in the X-ray imaging market. The Company supplies world class CCDs (Charge Coupled Devices) into X-ray systems, enabling medical practitioners to capture digital X-rays of patients’ trouble spots in a matter of seconds - from teeth to full body scans. Visitors to the Photonics West exhibition, 25-27 January 2005, can view samples from e2v’s CCD sensor portfolio on Booth 721.
e2v’s dental CCDs capture digital X-rays of patients’ teeth for instant transmission to a PC screen. This enables dentists to view X-ray images for analysis in real time. Furthermore, the encapsulated sensors use a lower radiation dose than traditional dental X-ray methods, thereby offering a safer alternative to the patient. This advanced CCD technology has been readily adopted by dental OEMs, such as Visiodent in France. By coupling e2v’s technology with the latest developments in Wireless Fidelity (WIFI), Visiodent now offers the innovative “VRW Visiodent Radiology Wireless® dental system” - one of the first digital radiography units to use wireless technology. The new system, which incorporates e2v CCD76-40s and CCD78-20s, makes simple the process of capturing, storing and retrieving digital X-ray images in dental offices.
On a larger scale, e2v enables medical staff to capture life-saving information in the form of full body scans! Lodox Systems (Pty) Ltd., for example, has chosen e2v for the continued supply of CCDs for its Statscan Critical Imaging System. The e2v CCD30-11s enable detailed X-ray images of patients’ injuries to be presented to surgeons for diagnosis within a few seconds. They produce clean, scatter-free images, with spatial resolution up to 8 line pairs per millimetre theoretically possible. Mr. William Greenway, CEO at Lodox Systems, comments: “The CCDs supplied by e2v are performing extremely well within our Statscan systems. They provide high quality, valuable images that enable fast and accurate medical diagnoses to be made. The system as a whole is a vital tool for medical staff, particularly in emergency trauma assessment centres.” The Lodox system works with low radiation doses for patient safety.
